A quick one

I started this portrait with the intention of finishing it quickly. Altogether, it took me little more than an hour plus some minor corrections – which is indeed rather fast compared to my natural snail-like speed of drawing.. :).

I started with just a very quick outline, and then went on to capture the details, yet letting the pencil flow freely over the paper to form the face.

Unfortunately I, am mostly quite a lot on the perfectionist side. So once I start a drawing I really want it to be close to perfect (or at least as far as I can push it…). With this one, I really had to force myself to just let it be as it is after a certain point. And I must say that I am really quite pleased with the result. Though it doesn’t capture every little detail of the original, I think it has a very natural touch to it, which I like a lot. I’d be happy to hear what you think!

male #2

Finally, I got around to doing a second nude male drawing as a sequel to this drawing. The posture turned out to be unexpectedly hard to capture for me, but in the end the result seems ok.

hands-on, part two: muscles and ligament structure

After a sadly uninspired week, I finally managed to take up the pencil again and continue with another study… This time I tried to capture the muscles and ligament structure wrapped around the skeleton.

hands-on, part one: skeleton

Drawing hands – again… This time I want to go into a little more detail than I usually do, and try to learn a little about the anatomy of hands. So, I started with the innermost layer: the skeleton.
Part two will follow…

male #1

Finally, I managed to do the first male nude drawing, as a counterpart to the female drawings here, here, and here. I hope I can continue with another drawing some time this week.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t got round to doing some real anatomic studies (or should I say, I wasn’t motivated enough to do them?). So please, be kind and ignore the anatomical flaws you may spot ;).

another potrait…

… just another portrait of some strange guy dear to my heart :). Some of you may even regognize him – at least if I haven’t done an exceptionally poor job…

great grandma.

This drawing shows my great grandma, who passed away when I was still a little kid. At times, I still think about her, even though my memories are naturally very limited.

I also thought about her and life in general when drawing the picture. All my memories are nice ones – small, nice memories of a child. To me, having those memories of one who is gone so long are like a solace. A soothing assurance that nobody really dies, as long as they are remembered by their loved ones, and live on in their hearts.

me and my mom…

… a long, long time ago :). Unfortunately the photo was rather small and low-detailed, but I think I managed to capture the two of us quite well.

eye draw.

I produced another little speed drawing video, showing the creation of the previously posted drawing of an eye. Unfortunately I didn’t capture the drawing process right from the start – I hope you still like it :).
